Advent Original.jpg

Advent is a season of waiting, hoping, and anticipating the birth of the Christ child.  We prepare ourselves and our surroundings, and the preparations we make to honor His birth lead us to hope, peace, joy, and love. This painting was inspired by the warm feelings of togetherness even in the darkest days leading up to Christmas  Join the families of this winter village as they come together under the Christmas star.

This painting won a contest and will be featured on the cover of a local holiday catalog. Made in the Lehigh Valley is an online marketplace of local handmade items that I am a part of. They held a cover contest and chose "Advent" as the cover.

Advent Calendar

Since last season, I’ve wanted to make an Advent Calendar.  I made sketches in the Spring and began work in August.  The original artwork is acrylic on an 18x24” canvas that took about eighteen hours to complete.  Then came the painting of all the scenes behind the windows, which took another eighteen hours.  After formatting all the paintings on the computer, I printed and trimmed them, cutting out each scene.  Using an X-acto knife, I measured and cut out twenty-four windows on each print.  I attached all the pictures to the backside of the main print and then attached a hanging cord before sealing up the backside.  Here are pictures of how the project progressed.

This Advent Calendar is handmade.  Open 24 hand-cut windows to reveal snippets of Christmas scenes as the families and creatures of the village prepare for the Nativity.  The calendar measures 11.5x15" including a quarter inch border.  It comes with an attached cord and is ready to hang.
